The cybercast will be hosted and narrated by singer Carnie Wilson, whose own bypass procedure in 1999 was the first to be shown live on the internet, and became an inspiration to many who were considering the surgery. Today, six years later, Carnie Wilson is 125 lbs. lighter, a new mom and the spokesperson for Lite and Hope, a role that gives her great joy and purpose.

  Alan C. Wittgrove, MD, FACS

Dr. Alan C. Wittgrove was born and raised in Missouri. He graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1972. He then attended the University of Missouri School of Medicine, graduating as a Doctor of Medicine. He served his internship and received his surgical residency training at San Diego Naval Hospital. He has served as a staff surgeon at Naval Hospitals in the Philippines, and Bremerton, Washington, and on the surgical teaching staff at San Diego, Naval Hospital. He is a board-certified surgeon, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the San Diego Society of General Surgeons, the San Diego County Medical Society, and the California Medical Association. He is the past president of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Wittgrove pioneered the laparoscopic approach of gastric bypass surgery, performing the first laparoscopic gastric bypass as primary surgeon in the world, in 1993. He and his program have performed over five-thousand bariatric procedures.


  Lee Trotter, D.O.

Dr. Lee D. Trotter was born and raised in Southern California. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1984. He then attended Western University of Health Sciences earning his medical degree, graduating in the top ten of his class. He completed a surgical internship and residency at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. He performed the first laparoscopic heart burn surgery in the USAF in 1992. Dr. Trotter has held teaching positions at both the Universities of North Dakota and South Dakota. He has served as Medical Director of a regional trauma center, life flight system and surgical intensive care unit. He is a board-certified surgeon and a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. He has earned a reputation as a nationally recognized speaker on advanced laparoscopic techniques.

Dr. Trotter has excelled in the understanding of bariatric nutrition. He has personally developed one of the only medical meal replacements which is now manufactured and distributed internationally. His nutritional program is setting new standards for bariatric surgery.

Dr. Trotter and his wife Stephanie have been married 25 years and have 5 children. They live in the Carson City, NV area and enjoy the many out door activities Lake Tahoe has to offer.

Dr. Leslie McClellan is founder and director of the Mercy Bariatric Wellness Center in Vernon Hills, Illinois. She graduated from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and completed her surgical residency at the University of Chicago Hospital. She received her bariatric surgery training from the former president of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons (ASBS). Dr. McClellan is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Titus D. Duncan is a 1978 graduate of University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. He completed his residency training at Georgia Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Duncan has practiced general surgery since 1983 and is affiliated with Atlanta Medical Center, Emory Crawford Long Hospital and Piedmont Hospital. He is a board certified surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is the Director of Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgery at Atlanta Medical Center and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Dr. Duncan is the founder of Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics Associates, P.C. located in downtown Atlanta. He is a Health News Reporter and Expert Fox WAGA Channel 5 “Good Day Atlanta”.

Dr. Duncan is a pioneer in laparoscopic surgery. He is the first in Georgia to perform a minimally invasive surgical approach to the spine. He is one of the first surgeons in the State of Georgia to perform laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery for the morbidly obese. One of the first surgeons in the United States to successfully perform endoscopic transanxillary approach to remove the parathyroid gland; performed the first laparoscopic gallbladder removal and hernia repair in St. Petersburg, Russia; performed the first laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in Salzburg, Austria; and performed the first laparoscopic removal of a gallbladder in a Black hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa shortly after the end of Apartheid. Dr. Duncan has presented and published extensively.

Dr. Duncan is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity; Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society and 100 Black Men of Atlanta. He also serves on several boards. He served as the 2005 president of the Atlanta Medical Association. Dr. Duncan is the 100 Black Men of Atlanta’s 2005 “Atlantans on the Move – Medicine” award recipient. He is currently featured as one of the most interesting personalities in the 2006 edition of Who’s Who in Black Atlanta.
